Well, this has been a week's rollercoaster for news in the tech world. The Trump tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China are supposed to start on February 1st. The media is trying to spread panic that there will be a spike in the cost of goods and they’re right if you believe Gold is an indicator. Gold, the bellwether commodity for inflation hit a record on Friday - It closed at $2,831.50
The VIX? It went a tiny bit, so either the market believes the tariffs will be short-lived (i.e. used by Trump as a bargaining chip), or the news has been factored in. Either way, the VIX is looking very complacent - and that is a bit disturbing.
The indices I track closed mixed this week. The S&P500, Nasdaq, and Russell 2000 closed higher but the Dow closed lower.
Here’s what you’ll find in this weekend’s market report 📨 :

Site Changes
After much deliberation, I’ve moved my Hugo-based Neural Market Trends site to Substack. Why? Substack offers powerful features that a static site simply can’t, including a built-in engagement algorithm and a thriving community.
What does this mean for my loyal readers? Not much will change—except for how I structure my content. I’ll continue publishing free content for everyone most of the time.
However, I’ve updated the Weekend Report to be exclusive to paid subscribers. If you opt in, you’ll receive stock and ETF seasonal performance reports, volatility forecasts, and my well-known gold and silver price forecasts. Founding Members will also get access to my private chat room where I post about my stock and options trades in near realtime.
Deepseek Torpedos Everything
The AI world has been put on notice - whether or not the Deepseek news can be believed but I do know that everyone is tired of how much it costs to train and infer these large language models.
