Terra Solar Philippines, a subsidiary of SP New Energy Corporation, is set to build a $3.3 billion integrated solar photovoltaic and battery facility, which is said to be the largest in the world. The project, which will have 3.5GW of solar energy paired with a 4.5GWh battery energy storage system, is expected to become one of the largest solar farms upon completion in 2027. The facility, set to spread over 3,500 hectares, is touted to meet 12% of the Philippines’ energy demand, benefiting more than two million homes.
Power Construction Corporation of China will manage the east section of the project that includes a 500-kilovolt transmission line connecting the project to the power grid. U.S. firm Jacobs will provide engineering services, technical advice and oversee equipment delivery logistics, with the company indicating the use of advanced digital construction management tools and drone technology to track the project’s progress. The project aligns with sustainability initiatives, as it is expected to reduce the Philippines’ reliance on coal and decrease energy-related emissions.
