Intel to Receive $8.5 Billion in Grants to Build Chip Plants

The Biden administration, equipped with $39 billion in subsidies to distribute, is spearheading an ambitious effort to ramp up production of the tiny chips that power everything from smartphones to computers and cars. The effort is at the center of Mr. Biden’s goal to reduce America’s reliance on foreign countries: Although semiconductors were invented in the United States, only about 10 percent of the world’s chips are made domestically. Datarobot Just Bought Nutonian to Add Key New AI Capabilities

This is an old link from like 2017 and I dug it out for my zettelkasten. DataRobot had already been working on time-series technology, but buying Nutonian accelerates the process and doubles its addressable market, said DataRobot co-founder and CEO Jeremy Achin. He added that about 20% of DataRobot’s existing customers have time series data that they now handle manually, for the most part. That painstaking work is ripe for automation, said Achin who, before co-founding DataRobot five years ago, was director of research and modeling at Travelers Insurance (TRV). - via Fortune ...

SMCI Rises And Crashes

I think the AI hype is catching up with momentum and trend traders. Everyone was (is) looking for the next best NVDA opportunity so they latched onto SMCI. Honesty, I have no idea what SMCI does but the market gossip/chatter was that it does “AI” and is into computer hardware. SMCI came across one of my “all time high after market close” scanners and I checked it out. It was doing pretty well before the “AI bros” got a hold of it and then it went price parabolic. It was going “to the moon” because people thought it had something to do with AI. Hint: It doesn’t. ...

SMCI Hits All Time High

Here’s one from the “if it has AI inside, it’s going to the moon” file. SMCI hit an all time high yesterday after hitting successive all time highs. It’s going to open probably higher than its close at $880.55 yesterday, but is it still a buy? According to Yahoo Finance it might be: On the other hand, it’s possible that the company is still in the early stages of benefiting from powerful long-term demand tailwinds thanks to AI. With Supermicro valued at roughly $49 billion, the stock could still have big upside potential if artificial intelligence continues to power rapid sales and earnings growth. Shares have become riskier and could be volatile, but the stars could be aligning for the company to continue crushing expectations. ...

More Robots, Fewer Jobs

Yikes. Bottom line: Robots do replace workers. On the other hand, some industries that don’t automate end up losing workers anyway, because their costs are too high and their customers go elsewhere. For workers, robots are only part of the problem. - Via Bloomberg

Data Mining Social Networks

All the stuff you post about yourself and what you like in Facebook or some other social network is a marketer’s wet dream. Data mining companies are now capitalizing on the free information you post about yourself, mining it, and then selling statistically significant data relationships to marketers via the social network’s APIs. A company called Colligent mines social networks for data that it sells to record labels to help them decide which demographics or individual fans might like a particular artist, and those are just the very first nuggets marketers pull out of profiles. ...

RapidMiner AI Finance Model - IV

** There are NEW livestream videos about RapidMiner! Visit my Channel here ** In Lesson 3, I introduced the Sliding Window Validation operator to test how well we can forecast a trend in a time series. Our initial results are very poor, we were able to forecast the trend with an average accuracy of 55.5%. This is fractionally better than a simple coin flip! In this updated lesson I will introduce the ability of Parameter Optimization in RapidMiner to see if we can forecast the trend better. ...

New Quants on the Block

I wanted to take a moment to recognize C++ Trader and Blogger Jacks, two quant/programming related blogs, I’ve stumbled across in the last few days. I like them so much, I added them to my blogroll. They post topics range from algorithmic trading systems to modeling for market inefficiencies. I feel so inspired by their blogs that I want become a member of their quant club, if they let me in. I promise to bring my own pocket protector and chips. ...

RapidMiner AI Finance Model - III

** There are NEW livestream videos about RapidMiner! Visit my Channel here ** In Lesson 2, I went over the concept of MultiObjective Feature Selection (MOFS). In this lesson we’ll build on MOFS for our model but we’ll forecast the trend and measure it’s accuracy. Revisiting MOFS We learned in lesson 2 that RapidMiner can simultaneously select the best features in your data set while maximizing the performance. We ran the process and the best features were selected below. ...

This feature selection process can be run over and over again for your AI Financial Market Model, should it begin to drift. Load in the Process from Tutorial One Start by reading the Building an AI Financial Market Model – Lesson 1 post. At the bottom of that post you can download the RapidMiner process. ...
