Bankruptcy judge rejects The Onion’s bid to buy Alex Jones’ Infowars
Zettelkasten Automated PostThe Onion’s parent company, Global Tetrahedron, bid to acquire Alex Jones’ far-right media conglomerate, including Infowars, has been rebuffed by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez. He concluded that the auction process was unfair and The Onion’s company wasn’t validated the rightful victor based on the best bid. Judge Lopez indicated concerns about the lack of a transparent process and believed the court-appointed trustee overseeing the auction, Christopher Murray, should have given a rival bidder associated with Jones a chance to enhance their offer. Despite the decision, it isn’t certain whether there will be a fresh auction.
The Onion’s company had plans to refurbish Infowars’ content from anti-government conspiracy theories to satirical humor. In its bid, The Onion had joined forces with families of the Sandy Hook school shooting victims who won defamation suits against Jones and desire to make anti-violence agency Everytown for Gun Safety Infowars’ exclusive advertiser. Despite rejection, The Onion’s CEO, Ben Collins, expressed the company’s determination to acquire InfoWars in future. On the other hand, Jones appears relieved and praised the judge for ‘doing the right thing.’
